As part of its Sexual Assault Awareness Month programming, Baylor Law School’s student-led organization Baylor Law HEAL (Help, Educate, Advocate, and Learn) transformed a night of trivia into a powerful act of advocacy and community support. More than 100 Baylor Law students and 17 faculty members—including Dean Jeremy Counseller—gathered for HEAL’s Annual Trivia Night. The result? A sold-out venue, $2,000 raised, and a powerful show of solidarity among students, professors, and the broader Waco community.

Baylor Law School is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Emeritus Louis S. Muldrow, who died on February 17, 2025, at the age of 92. A prominent figure in the central Texas legal community, Muldrow dedicated nearly 20 years to shaping Baylor Lawyers through his leadership of the acclaimed Practice Court Program as the Leon Jaworski Professor of Practice and Procedure.

The Supreme Court of Texas heard oral arguments in two civil cases at the Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center on Thursday, February 20. The Court convened in the Jim Kronzer Appellate Advocacy Classroom and Courtroom, room 127.

When Jennifer Hay graduated from Baylor Law School in 2001, she envisioned a career centered on litigation, a path she passionately pursued during her early years as an attorney. Two decades later, she holds a vastly different role as the President and General Counsel of Park Lawn Corporation (PLC), a leading funeral, cremation, and cemetery services provider.

The Baylor Law School Veterans Clinic honored Krupali Patel and Jessenia Ruiz with the 2024 Advocate of the Year Awards at a Waco-McLennan County Bar Association luncheon on November 8.
The award recognizes dedicated lawyers who serve Central Texas veterans and their families with free legal services via the clinic each year.

Elizabeth Fraley, the Gerald Reading Powell Chair in Advocacy, will serve as the Director of Practice Court beginning in February of 2025. Fraley will succeed Jim Wren, the Leon Jaworski Chair of Practice and Procedure, when Wren steps away from full-time teaching next year after nearly two decades of outstanding service on the Practice Court faculty. This appointment reflects Baylor Law School’s continued commitment to providing students with exceptional preparation for the practice of law.

Baylor Law School’s Professor Chris Jaeger has been recognized as a co-winner of the prestigious American Association of Law Schools (AALS) Scholarly Papers Competition for his research paper, The Hand Formula’s Unequal Inputs.

Raised in Laverne, California, 1L Noah Sullivan’s path to law school was not always set in stone. “It came down to a deal with my parents where if I got into Baylor for undergrad, I’d go, and if I didn’t, they’d get off my back, and I’d get to join the military,”

On Monday, September 30, Baylor Law School celebrated the conclusion of the 2024 Dawson & Sodd PLLC Moot Court Competition. After an engaging final round, Respondents Cagan Baldree and Michael Rowley were announced as the winners of this year’s competition.

In May 2024, With a confident demeanor and a steely determination, O’quilla Jones, a Baylor Law School 3L, navigated the Mad Dog Competition with the skill of a seasoned litigator. By the end of the competition, she emerged victorious, earning the coveted title of Mad Dog Champion.

Assistant Professor of Law Dyllan Taxman’s journey into the legal field began at a young age in the familiar surroundings of his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With his mother serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he grew up immersed in the nuances of criminal law. This early exposure and his love for reading and writing made law an obvious career choice.

Baylor Law’s Professor Bridget Fuselier recently lent her expertise in property law to an in-depth interview with an online ‘ask-the-expert’ program offering valuable insights into various aspects of real estate transactions, property disputes, and landlord-tenant relationships.

Mazzant, III, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas, was honored as the 2024 Baylor Lawyer the Year by the Baylor Law School Alumni Association. Baylor Law School is pleased to announce that Gregory Passa will join Baylor Law’s full-time faculty as an Assistant Professor of Law starting August 1, 2024. Professor Passa brings a wealth of expertise in intellectual property law and patent prosecution, alongside a distinguished academic background.

In early 2024, the Baylor Law Entrepreneurship Clinic began collaborating with Staci Daniel, the founder of Anchor Academy. Staci, a pediatric speech-language pathologist with 20 years of experience working with children with disabilities, was inspired to establish a Christian-centered therapeutic school for children with disabilities in Central Texas.

Dyllan Taxman will join the Baylor Law full-time faculty as an Assistant Professor of Law effective August 1, 2024. Professor Taxman will teach classes focused on Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.

Top student advocates from across the nation will compete in the fifteenth annual Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition, set to take place from May 29 to June 2 at Baylor Law in Waco.

Associate Professor of Law Jessica Asbridge has been honored by Baylor University with its 2023-2024 Award for Outstanding Teaching Among Tenure-Track Faculty. Every year, Baylor University honors 12 distinguished faculty members with its prestigious Outstanding Faculty Awards.

Competing against 32 teams nationwide, Baylor Law’s representatives clinched the prestigious Oar Trophy for Most Outstanding Law School for the second time in four years.

Baylor Law’s legal writing team has announced the winners of the 2024 Ultimate Writer Legal Writing Competition. Stephen Hirschbuehler clinched the top spot and a prize of $8,000. Following closely, Tiffani Skroch claimed second place, earning a $1,500 award, and Brendan Fowler secured third place with a $500 prize.

Highlighted by Top 20 graduate programs across disciplines ranging from physical therapy and nursing to entrepreneurship and trial advocacy, Baylor University graduate and professional programs were among those nationally ranked in the 2024 Best Graduate Schools rankings, released today by U.S. News& World Report.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Baylor Law presented awards and honors to over 100 law students at the annual John Williams and Florence Dean Minton Student Awards Ceremony and Lecture Series. The event, held for the first time at the Mark & Paula Hurd Welcome Center, recognizes future Baylor Lawyers’ remarkable achievements across academics, advocacy, service, and leadership.

Baylor University will join City of Waco and McLennan County partners – in cooperation with the Waco/McLennan County Office of Emergency Management – to conduct a regular test of its Outdoor Warning System (tornado sirens) at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5. The University’s testing period will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

Olivia J. Schoffstall, a third-year law student and Managing Senior Executive Editor at Baylor Law Review, recently tied for second place in the highly competitive Judicial Clerkship Opinion Writing Conference held at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
