Student Summer Experience
I have a new appreciation for how practical the training is at Baylor. Baylor’s transactional coursework set me up for success and gave me the framework I needed to grow in a real-life environment.
– Christina Woodall, 8Q
This summer, many of Baylor Law’s transactional-focused students had the opportunity to work at law firms and other organizations across the State of Texas and beyond. Students applied their knowledge and skills in a variety of practice areas and received valuable exposure to the realities and trends of current transactional practice. The Baylor Law Transactional Program is proud of the excellent work that our students did this summer. Sic’em Baylor Law!
I was given the opportunity to take full ownership of my assignments during the summer. Firm leadership encouraged me to take charge and deliver results for the team. I credit Baylor and Professor Miller for equipping me with the skills and confidence to excel in my internship.
– Dan Marasa, 7Q
The Transactional Program received feedback from students at many different points in their law school careers, ranging from rising fourth-quarter students to students who returned from the summer to finish their time at Baylor. Baylor Law’s transactional students showcased their skills at law firms of every size, ranging from firms of 1-10 lawyers to firms of 100 or more lawyers. Students worked in areas such as estate planning, real estate, mergers & acquisitions, tax, and municipal law. Students were overwhelmingly positive about their summer experiences, with many reporting that they will be returning to the same firms next summer or after graduation.
I gained exposure to areas of transactional law I hadn’t previously considered and discovered a real passion for Elder Law and Special Needs Estate Planning.
– Hanna Cluck, 7Q
The most valuable takeaway from Baylor is the development of soft skills. While having substantive knowledge as a summer associate is a bonus, the most important factor is your attitude and how you interact with others. Baylor excels at giving students the substantive knowledge and fosters the professionalism and adaptability needed to thrive in any environment.
– Walker Montjoy, 7Q
The Transactional Program also heard from a number of employers who had high praise for the knowledge, skills, and work ethic displayed by Baylor Law students who worked for them in a transactional practice setting this summer. We are not surprised to hear great things about our students, but we are proud to receive these reports and eager to brag about them! If you know of employment, externship, internship, or field placement opportunities that would provide our transactional-oriented students an opportunity to gain experience and shine a light on their Baylor Law training, please be sure to pass them along to our Career Development Office or a member of the transactional law faculty!
