Olivia Womack, JD '25, a recent August graduate of Baylor Law School, has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious State Bar of Texas Tax Section Scholarship. She earned the award during her third year at Baylor Law School in recognition of her academic excellence and strong commitment to the field of tax law. The competitive scholarship includes a $2,000 award and is intended to support aspiring tax professionals planning to practice in Texas.

Womack is the second Baylor Law student to receive the award since its inception. The first was Tara Smith, JD ’21, who, like Womack, distinguished herself in Baylor Law’s tax law curriculum and earned the Tax Law Award presented each year during the John William & Florence Dean Minton Student Awards Ceremony. Both Womack and Smith completed independent studies in federal income tax law under the guidance of Adjunct Professor Christine Robinson, and both earned recognition for their exceptional scholarship and dedication to the field.

The Tax Section considers a variety of criteria in its selection process, including academic merit, demonstrated interest and experience in tax law, financial need, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Olivia stood out for her scholarly work and an undeniable passion for the field. Womack stated, “Some people fall in love with the law through courtroom drama or constitutional debate; I fell in love while reading a footnote in the Internal Revenue Code. I’m endlessly grateful for Professor Robinson’s mentorship, as she taught me that tax law is not just a system of calculations but a language that communicates our values, shapes behavior, and redistributes opportunity.” Womack added, “Baylor Law has been an extraordinary place to learn and grow, and I’m deeply grateful for the journey I’ve had here. There is truly no place I would rather be, and I am beyond proud to one day (very soon) call myself a Baylor Lawyer.”

“Olivia is a smart and diligent law student and a gifted writer and advocate with a refreshing enthusiasm and knack for tax law,” said Adjunct Professor Christine Robinson. “On top of all her academic kudos, she is simply a classy person and a delight to know. Olivia is just the kind of young business transactions lawyer we need to bolster our ranks in the State Bar. How proud we are that she is one of ours!”
