Welcome to Baylor Law School: Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow
At Baylor Law School, we have proudly upheld a tradition of excellence in legal education since 1857. Long before the term “practice-ready” became a popular buzzword in legal education, we set the standard by equipping our students with a powerful blend of analytical, problem-solving, and professional skills—preparing them for the ever-evolving landscape of legal practice.

LEADING THE WAY SINCE 1857
Formally organized in 1857, Baylor Law School has a rich history as the second university west of the Mississippi to teach law and the first official law school in Texas. Our pioneering spirit led to the introduction of the “Practice Court” in the 1920s, a revolutionary concept that became the benchmark for practical training among law schools. Today, Baylor Law is recognized as "the Marine Corps of law schools,” leading the way in legal education. Our carefully calibrated curriculum, rooted in a strong foundation of legal theory, provides the nation’s most in-depth training ground for the practice of law. Students develop the character, maturity, and skills needed to lead clients and become influential leaders in their professions and communities.
AHEAD OF THE CURVE
Baylor Law School boasts one of the most magnificent, spacious, and technologically advanced facilities. The Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center opened in 2001, is architecturally stunning, spanning three levels and 128,000 square feet. Situated on the beautiful campus of Baylor University, on the banks of the Brazos River in Waco, Texas, our state-of-the-art facilities reflect our commitment to excellence in legal education.
