Student Profile - Mary Sullivan Beckley
Getting to Know Mary Sullivan Beckley
Why did you choose Baylor Law?
I chose Baylor Law because of its reputation (of course!) and also because I received so much personal correspondence from current and prior students. A current student reached out to me and talked with me about her experience as a 1L at Baylor, and answered the many questions I had. I really appreciated that personal connection! I also loved the option to start in the summer!
What is your favorite thing about Baylor Law?
The professors! They are approachable for questions about course material and career choices, and they are truly excellent educators. Right away, they pushed each of us to start thinking and communicating like a lawyer.
What do you do to relax/for fun, and what are you involved with at Baylor Law?
I love exploring all the coffee shops Waco has to offer. My friends and I will often study at one over the weekend. My current favorite is For Keeps! At the law school, I’ve really enjoyed Christian Legal Society, the various PDPs, and cheering on the intramural flag football team.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about law school?
Law school involves a totally new way of thinking, and growth happens quickly. It’s a really diverse and flexible career choice. I would encourage applicants to think about what they would like to gain from law school and understand that it’s challenging but incredibly rewarding. I have zero regrets with my decision to attend law school, and I feel very blessed to attend Baylor.
