Entrepreneurship Clinic: Practical Training Through Real Client Work

Over the past year, Baylor Law’s Entrepreneurship Clinic has continued to provide students with hands-on transactional experience while serving entrepreneurs, startups, and nonprofit organizations throughout Texas. During this spring quarter alone, 11 law students assisted in drafting entity formation documents for 10 businesses and nonprofits, gaining direct exposure to the practical realities of early-stage transactional practice.

Through client calls, entity formation work, and drafting foundational governance documents, students are developing the skills and judgment necessary for practice. Travis McInroe reflected that the Clinic taught him how transactional lawyers translate client goals into practical, compliant next steps while helping clients avoid costly missteps early in the process. He also emphasized the value of producing real work products and learning how to communicate recommendations clearly to clients.

Maryann Heffley similarly highlighted the opportunity to work with a wide variety of businesses and client goals while strengthening her attention to detail, issue-spotting abilities, and confidence in handling unfamiliar projects. She noted that the Clinic has helped bridge the gap between law school and practice through real client experience and guided reflection.

As the Clinic continues to grow, it remains an important part of Baylor Law’s commitment to practical legal education and to preparing students to serve clients effectively from day one.
