Baylor Transactional Law Competition

Transactional law competitions help students develop skills in analysis, drafting, client counseling, and negotiation. Although these competitions are relatively new, they provide valuable experience in corporate and transactional practice.

At Baylor Law, second- and third-year students can participate in the Baylor Transactional Law Competition by enrolling in the Transactional Law Practice Lab, an elective course offered each spring quarter.

Students work in teams of two on a hypothetical merger and acquisition (M&A) or other corporate transaction. Throughout the course, they receive instruction and guidance on legal issues, drafting, and negotiation strategies used in transactional practice.

The course culminates in a competition where teams represent opposing sides of a transaction. Practicing business and transactional lawyers serve as judges during the negotiation rounds.
