Student Profile - Thomas Malaspina
Getting to Know Thomas Malaspina
Why did you choose Baylor Law?
I chose Baylor Law because Baylor honors and values veterans due to their sacrifice and service, Baylor enjoys a reputation of preparing students for the courtroom and is a prominent competitor in national, trial-based competitions, and Baylor is unapologetically faith-based. These qualities, among countless others, made Baylor the obvious choice for me.
What are you involved with at Baylor Law?
I have been in leadership in the Federalist Society and a member of the Christian Legal Society. These organizations help expand and conflate my legal education with my passions and beliefs. I have also been involved with clinics and as a student ambassador.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about law school?
I strongly advise having an “inciting incident” that will keep you going long after you reach your limits. Law school will test and often forcibly expand your limits, and having a cause, passion, or reason that will always persevere over these challenges is essential. Trust me, after a few weeks of 14+ hour days, you WILL say, “Why did I do this to myself?” and that is perfectly normal – I did it too. However, that question was easily suppressed by my desire to serve my country in her Army JAG Corps. Find your reason, and nothing will break you. You can do this!
