Baylor Law School 3L Jared Miller has been honored with the 2026 State Bar of Texas Tax Section Scholarship. This competitive award recognizes law students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and a strong commitment to the study and practice of tax law. The scholarship, which includes a $2,000 award, aims to support emerging tax practitioners committed to building their careers in Texas.

Miller is the third Baylor Law student in the past five years to receive the honor. Olivia Womack, JD ’25, earned the scholarship in 2025, and Tara Smith, JD ’21, received the award in 2021. All three students distinguished themselves through Baylor Law’s tax law curriculum and their dedication to the field.

Before attending Baylor Law, Miller earned a Master of Science in Accounting and a Master of Arts in Business Administration, became a Certified Public Accountant, and gained valuable experience working in tax and corporate finance advisory roles at PwC and KPMG. His professional background fueled his interest in transactional law and mergers and acquisitions work, where legal strategy and business planning intersect.

Miller is set to graduate from Baylor Law School this summer. During his time at Baylor Law, he developed a strong focus on corporate and transactional practice, pursued Special Distinctions in both Business Planning and Estate Planning & Administration, and received the Outstanding Achievement awards in Business Planning, Estate Planning, and Tax Law. Following graduation and the Texas Bar Exam, he will begin practice this fall in Houston, where he will focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate law.

“Receiving the State Bar of Texas Tax Section Scholarship is a tremendous honor because tax law has been the central thread running through my academic and professional life,” stated Miller. “As I prepare to begin my legal career, I am grateful for the encouragement from my faculty mentors and future colleagues in the Texas bar. While my accounting background gave me the technical foundation to appreciate the precision and discipline that tax work requires, my legal education helped me see how to turn that foundation into practical judgment. Through Baylor Law’s transactional curriculum, I have become increasingly drawn to work that helps clients structure important transactions, solve complex problems, and plan thoughtfully for the future.”

The State Bar of Texas Tax Section evaluates applicants based on academic performance, demonstrated interest in tax law, financial need, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Miller stood out among applicants for his accomplishments in the classroom, his practical experience in complex financial matters, and his commitment to transactional practice.

“Jared is an exceptional law student who enjoys and excels at tax scholarship. And on top of all his academic and professional success, he is a class act. Although we will certainly miss him when he graduates, how proud we are to have another outstanding young transactional lawyer like Jared represent Baylor Law in the Texas State Bar,” noted adjunct professor Christine Robinson.
