Estate Planning Clinic Update
Baylor Law School’s Estate Planning Clinic provides basic estate planning for veterans, first responders, and their spouses living in and around McLennan County. Staffed by Baylor Law School students under the supervision of clinic director Josh Borderud and guided by Professor Thomas Featherston, students gain valuable, real-world experience helping clients arrange for the transfer of their assets to their heirs by drafting wills. As cases are assigned, students draft wills and serve as witnesses at the will signing ceremony. Additionally, clinic staff prepares powers of attorney, medical powers of attorney, directives to physicians, and declarations of guardian. In the 2024-25 school year, 17 students drafted 42 wills for veterans and first responders. Since 2016, our students have drafted 581 wills.
In April 2025, law student Melanie Green drafted the wills for a first responder couple under the supervision of Professors Featherston and Borderud. The couple, both of whom serve as Waco PD detectives, commented, "Excellent experience with Baylor Law School. Everything was thoroughly explained to us. Mr. Borderud and Ms. Green were delightful!”
