Adoption Day 2020
Even in our current COVID environment, nothing could stop the commitment of the Baylor Law Public Interest Legal Society and Professor of Law Bridget Fuselier to continue to celebrate McLennan County’s Adoption Day on Friday, November 2oth. For thirteen straight years, Baylor Law has celebrated the joys of adoption and encouraged more people to pursue adoption as a way to give children permanent families.
On Friday, 21 families were legally formed, and 29 former foster children now have permanent homes and will not age out of the system. The theme for the 2020 Adoption Day was “Adoptions: Making Wishes Come True,” loosely based on an ‘Aladdin’ theme.
“In a year of negativity and turmoil, something beautiful and positive happened on Friday,” said Professor Bridget Fuselier, founder of Baylor Law's Adoption Day program. “While we cannot celebrate this wonderful day with these families in person, it makes my heart happy knowing that good things are still happening amidst all the bad.”
Members of the Public Interest Legal Society, beautiful examples of kindness, patience, resilience, signed up to put on and participate in the annual event even during the pandemic. Students made individual backpacks for the participating children stuffed with crafts, books, and all the necessities for an Aladdin movie night at home. Baylor Law recognizes students Mia De Llano, Julie Matsen, Bailey Van Natta, Jono Cooper, Peyton Maddox, Rivir Berry, Samantha Chaiken, and Garrett Anderson for all they did to coordinate this special for these ‘forever families.’
