Baylor Law Celebrates Wellness Week

WACO

The week of October 4 - 10 has been designated 'Law Student Mental Health Week' by the ABA Law Student Division and the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs. The ABA has scheduled several important events and learning opportunities to encourage law students to make mental health a wellness a priority as they prepare for their careers.

In addition to the events scheduled by the ABA, Baylor Law has scheduled several Baylor-specific events for students as well:

  • Monday, October 4 at 12:15: Professional Development Opportunity: Managing Anxiety and Mental Health in Law School and the Legal Profession, presented by Whitney Keltch Green (JD '12) and Andrew Jones (JD '13).
  • Tuesday, October 5 Meditation Room: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. Students are welcome to take a short break and enjoy over 1,300 options for meditation from the Peloton library.
  • Wednesday, October 6: Kickboxing & Yoga. At 5:30 pm, students are invited to join a 30-minute kickboxing class with a personal trainer from 9Round Kickboxing Fitness. At 6 pm, students can enjoy a Yoga Class with a Baylor FitWell certified instructor.
  • Thursday, October 7: Chair Massages & Dog Park. 3:30 pm - 7pm: students can receive a free Chair Massage in the Lawyers Lounge and bring their favorite canine to the 'Baylor Law Dog Park’ from 4 - 6 pm in the 'backyard.’
  • Friday, October 8: Visit with Baylor FitWell, outside Room 120 from 11 am - 1 pm, and Baylor University’s Registered Dietician Regina Mastin from 12 - 1 pm. Make a nutritious FREE snack and connect with Baylor FitWell and Baylor Nutrition specialists from 12:15 - 12:25 in Room 120.

“We are excited to promote Wellness Week in conjunction with the ABA Law Student Mental Health Week,” stated Professor of Law Bridget Fuselier. “Mental health issues are prevalent in the legal profession. Lawyers and law students are often afraid to ask for help. At Baylor Law, we’re trying to change that thinking and break the stigma associated with talking about mental health and seeking care as needed.”

All the events scheduled at Baylor Law for Wellness Week 2021 are free.
