Whitney Holmes
Assistant Professor of Law
Whitney Holmes joined the faculty in Fall 2022. Whitney teaches Poverty Law & Policy, Commercial Real Estate Transactions, Consumer Protection Law, and Nonprofit Organizations. Her scholarship focuses on the nature, causes and cures of persistent cyclical poverty in the United States.
Prior to joining the faculty, Whitney practiced commercial real estate law, representing owners, tenants, developers, and investors in the full spectrum of commercial real estate matters. Outside of the practice, Whitney has served on the boards for various community-centered organizations, most recently, the Houston Community Land Trust—a non-profit organization working to create affordable housing opportunities through the land trust community ownership model.
Whitney received a B.A. in History from Columbia University and her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. After law school, Whitney clerked for the Honorable Nelva Gonzales Ramos of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Outside of teaching and writing, Whitney enjoys exploring Waco’s rivers and trails with her husband, daughter, and several dogs.
