Stephanie Tang
Assistant Professor of Law
Professor Stephanie L. Tang joined the Baylor Law faculty in Spring 2022. Professor Tang teaches Family Law, Advanced Family Law, Children and the Law, and LARC 3: Persuasive Communication.
Prior to joining Baylor, Professor Tang was a Partner at a family law firm in Chicago, where she specialized in all areas of family law. She obtained multiple certifications as a mediator, fellow with Collaborative Divorce Illinois, and a Certified Financial Litigator with the American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators. She has extensive experience litigating, mediating, and collaborating on high-conflict divorce and parentage cases. The Illinois State Bar Association previously awarded Professor Tang the 2019 Young Lawyer of the Year Award and 2024 CLE Achievement Award. Additionally, while in private practice, she received multiple accolades in family law, including being selected as a Rising Star attorney in Family Law by Illinois Super Lawyers, an Emerging Lawyer in Family Law by Leading Lawyers, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, and receiving the Avvo Clients’ Choice Award for outstanding client reviews.
Professor Tang received a B.A. degree in Psychology and Legal Studies with Honors from Northwestern University. She then graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law, Magna Cum Laude with pro bono notation. While in law school, she received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Family Law, the HNBA Internal Moot Court Competition, and Regulations of Financial Institutions. Professor Tang also received the Marguerite L. Rickert Award for Excellence in both Legal Writing and Service as one of the top eight students in her graduating class in both areas.
Outside of her private practice, Professor Tang has engaged in extensive pro bono service to low-income communities. In 2017, she was selected among over 2,300 volunteer attorneys to receive the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding pro bono services by the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, Chicago’s first and pre-eminent legal aid organization. From 2022-2023, she served as the youngest and first Asian-American Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Family Law Section Council, comprised of over sixty licensed attorneys and family law judges. She currently serves as the Reporter for the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission Standards of Representation Committee.
In her free time, she and her husband love trying new foods (especially desserts!) and traveling with their kids.
