Legal Writing Senior Lecturer

Mike Berry came to Baylor Law School in 2009 as the Director of the Career Development Office. He began teaching a class in Appellate Advocacy and Procedure as an adjunct professor in 2011. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing (LARC) program. Mike teaches LARC 3: Persuasive Communications and LARC 5: Litigation Drafting. He also coaches moot-court teams and is the faculty advisor to the Law School’s Harvey M. Richey Moot Court Society.
Before starting his teaching career, Mike spent 22 years in private practice with Thompson & Knight in Dallas, Texas. He retired from active practice as a senior partner in 2008 and remained Of Counsel to the firm through December 2015. While at the law firm, Mike represented clients in both tort and commercial civil litigation cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts. During the latter part of his practice, he primarily focused on representing pharmaceutical and medical-device manufacturers in product-liability cases. As a partner, Mike was active in the firm’s associate-development programs.
Before attending law school, Mike was a hospital pharmacist in Tyler, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy, with High Honors, in 1976 from the University of Texas at Austin. Mike obtained his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1986. He graduated with honors and was a member of The Order of the Coif.
