Lee Ann James

  • Legal Writing Senior Lecturer

Lee Ann James taught legal writing as an adjunct professor for three years prior to joining the legal writing department in 2019, when she began teaching full time in the LARC program with a focus on litigation drafting.  Professor James subsequently developed and teaches Advanced Discovery Management to students in their second quarter of Practice Court.  Additionally, she serves on the Advocacy Team Committee as a coach for student Moot Court Teams. From 2015-2021 she worked for Baylor University’s Office of the General Counsel on a contractual basis, serving in an external role for the Baylor University Title IX Office. Professor James currently represents the law school as a member of the Baylor University Faculty Senate.

Professor James earned her J.D. with honors from Baylor Law in 2002, where she served as an Executive Editor for the Baylor Law Review, was a member of the Trial Advocacy Team, and earned the Matt Dawson Advocacy Award.  After law school, she worked for a local firm, Naman Howell Smith & Lee, LLP, focusing on medical malpractice defense and general litigation.  She then worked for Scanes, Routh, & James, LLP in general litigation practice before leaving private practice for a short time to stay home with her children.  Professor James now serves in an Of Counsel capacity for the law firm of Cherry Johnson Siegmund James. As part of her instruction, she provides real-life litigation scenarios and documents so that students benefit from both her professional and personal experience.

Professor James has been actively involved in the community as a board member for ShareFest Waco, Lorena Elementary PTA, Lorena ISD PAC, and South Bosque Elementary PTA.  She has also served with her son and daughter through YMSL and NCL.

Professor James and her husband, Scott (also a 2002 Baylor Law alumnus), are blessed with three children.  They serve as deacons at Harris Creek Baptist Church and in their extra time can be found either serving there or watching their kids’ sporting activities.
