Dyllan Taxman

Assistant Professor of Law

Professor Taxman joined the Baylor Law faculty in the Fall of 2024. He teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and National Security Law. 

Professor Taxman’s scholarship focuses on criminal law, national security law, and international law. His academic writing focuses on gun violence, gun control, international law in U.S. Courts, and constitutional limits on criminal prosecution. Since joining Baylor Law, his articles have been published or are forthcoming in the William and Mary Law Review and the Duke Journal of Constitutional Law and Public Policy. As a practitioner, his work appeared in the Louisiana Law ReviewUniversity of Memphis Law ReviewNotre Dame Law Review Reflection, and other law journals.

Prior to teaching, Professor Taxman served as an officer in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps). His active duty tours included serving as a military prosecutor, command legal advisor, and civil legal assistance attorney. He also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Tennessee, prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases in the greater Memphis area.

Professor Taxman received his B.A. with dual majors in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin. He then attended Georgetown Law in the evenings while employed in the Clerk of Court’s office at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, graduating magna cum laude and Order of the Coif. Between law school and the Navy, Professor Taxman clerked for the Honorable Ralph R. Erickson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Professor Taxman and his wife (Katlyn) enjoy spoiling their golden retriever (Sugaree). The Taxmans can be found exploring parks and walking trails, as well as meandering around farmers’ markets.
