Texas Court Of Criminal Appeals To Convene For Arguments March 23 At Baylor Law

Texas Court of Criminal Appeals will hear two cases at the Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center on Thursday, March 23. The public is invited to attend the hearings in the Jim Kronzer Appellate Advocacy Classroom and Courtroom (Room 127) at the law school which will begin at 9am.
The Court of Criminal Appeals, the highest state court for appeals arising from criminal cases, is based in the Supreme Court building in Austin. The Court is comprised of nine members— a presiding judge, Judge Sharon Keller, and eight judges, including Judge Richard ‘Scott’ Walker, a 1997 Baylor law graduate. Judge Walker began his six-year term on the Court of Criminal Appeals on January 1, 2017.
“We're grateful to the Court for visiting with our faculty to discuss our criminal law programming and for showcasing to the Baylor Law community the Court’s oral argument docket,” said Baylor Law's Dean Brad Toben. "This visit from the Court affords Baylor Law the opportunity to share the array of criminal law components in our curriculum that enable us to prepare our students for a prosecution or criminal defense practice,” he added.
The Court will hear appeals on a Capital Murder case originating in Harris County, case AP-77,082 and a case involving the Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon in McLennan County, case PD-0436-22.
