Baylor Lawyer, Lewis R. Sifford (JD ’72) Confirmed as National President of the American Board of Trial Advocates

Baylor Law congratulates Lewis R. Sifford (JD ’72) on his selection as the 2022 President of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Sifford was unanimously confirmed at the organization’s National Committee Meeting on January 3. This is Sifford’s second time serving as National President, having served previously in 2007. In 2018, he received ABOTA's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Since graduating from Baylor Law in 1972, Sifford has tried hundreds of civil jury trials to verdict, served as an arbitrator in complex securities cases and disputes involving pharmaceuticals and medical devices, participated in over 175 trial demonstrations in dozens of states for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and ABOTA, served as ABOTA president both in Texas and at the national level, and has served on multiple committees for the Texas Bar Association. He was named Baylor Lawyer of the Year in 2019, has been named a 'Texas Super Lawyer' by Texas Monthly Magazine, and 'The Best Lawyers in Dallas' by D Magazine on multiple occasions

Sifford is a remarkably talented trial lawyer who has made it his life’s work to speak, teach, and proudly defend the truth that we, as lawyers, have an obligation to advocate for the preservation and advancement of the Seventh Amendment right to trial by jury for all people seeking recourse,” stated Baylor Law Dean Brad Toben. “His defense of our Constitutional system and consistent leadership both in and beyond the legal profession is admirable and compelling.”

Sifford currently serves as a Jaworksi Fellow at Baylor Law, is past president of the Baylor Law Alumni Association, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Academy of the Advocate, Baylor Law's study abroad program at the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
