Michael Smith
Legal Writing Lecturer
Michael Smith joined Baylor Law as a full-time Legal Writing Lecturer in Fall 2023, focusing on transactional drafting.
Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in health science studies from Baylor University (2002). He then obtained his master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (2005), completing his master’s thesis on spirituality and finding meaning in healthcare work. Michael earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center (2008), where he served as the Publications Editor for the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy.
Before joining Baylor Law, Michael practiced in Austin, Texas, with Strasburger & Price, LLP, Clark Hill PLC, and Winstead PC, advising clients on corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters. He also served as Associate General Counsel for a non-profit community health center and gained legislative and administrative law experience as in-house counsel for a statewide medical association.
Michael and his wife, Kristie, have three children and are actively involved in their local church.
