Caroline Stewart

Caroline joined the faculty in Fall 2026, teaching in the Legal Analysis, Research, and Communications (LARC) program. She brings experience in commercial litigation, public service, and complex transactional negotiations to the study of legal writing. 

Caroline began her career as a litigator at Vinson & Elkins, LLP, where she practiced in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. Her work focused on business and contract disputes, particularly in the energy and environmental sectors. As part of her pro bono practice, she also represented clients seeking asylum in the United States. 

In 2021, Caroline transitioned to public service, advising the City of Georgetown on issues surrounding electric and water utilities. She went on to lead negotiations for major water infrastructure projects, public-private partnerships, and regulatory and financing matters. She presents regularly on water law and infrastructure development in Texas. 

Caroline earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served on the Senior Editorial Board of the Virginia Law Review and was a member of the extramural moot court team. She earned dual bachelor's degrees from Texas Tech University, playing on the varsity volleyball team for four years. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable James O. Browning of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. 

Caroline and her husband live in Georgetown with their two girls and a poodle named Pongo.
