How to Obtain Course Credit
Students seeking field placement credit must follow the process outlined below:
APPLYING AND PREPARING FOR THE EXTERNSHIP:
- If you have questions about available placement opportunities, contact Kristine Bridges, Assistant Dean of Career Development. For questions about obtaining credit and registration, please contact Angela Cruseturner, Senior Assistant Dean, or Lauren Porter, Academic Services Coordinator.
- Complete the Memo of Understanding. Before earning hours for field placement credit, you must return a completed copy of the Memo of Understanding to Lauren Porter, Academic Services Coordinator, signed by you, your site supervisor, and your faculty supervisor. Once the completed Memo has been received, you will be registered for the field placement.
- Faculty supervisors must provide student externs with ongoing, contemporaneous, faculty-guided experiences. This may take the form of a classroom instructional component, regularly scheduled tutorials, reflection papers, or a journal on which the faculty supervisor will provide feedback. Before you begin your field placement, discuss with your faculty supervisor what he or she will require of you throughout your field placement.
ONCE THE THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IS COMPLETE AND SUBMITTED:
- You will receive an email from your faculty supervisor at the beginning of the quarter outlining the requirements for your field placement.
- All students participating in field placements must participate in Implicit Bias training. Dean Cruseturner will provide information for training sessions at the start of each quarter.
- The Registrar's Office maintains all field placement records. Please send Lauren_Porter@baylor.edu a copy of all field placement documents, including reflection papers, journals, and timesheets.
