WACO, Texas -

Baylor Law is excited to announce the upcoming Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition for 2023, which will bring together accomplished advocates from 16 prestigious trial advocacy schools across the country. From May 31 to June 4, Baylor Law will host this invitation-only tournament, generously sponsored by MG+M The Law Firm. The competition will provide a platform for students to demonstrate their advocacy skills and expertise in a unique and challenging environment.

Unlike other mock trial competitions, the Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition presents participants with distinctive challenges. Contestants will not have the luxury of pre-arrival preparation and will receive the case file a mere 24 hours before the opening rounds. Within this limited timeframe, competitors must immerse themselves in a variety of documents, extract the essential facts of the case, and meticulously prepare for trial.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition will showcase the exceptional talents of advocates from the following trial advocacy schools:

  • Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law - Sydney Kraft
  • Case Western Reserve University School of Law - Andrew Thompson
  • Chicago-Kent College of Law - Razaul Haque
  • Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law - Clarke Doig
  • Fordham University School of Law - Jacqueline Hayes
  • Hofstra University Maurice A. Deane School of Law - Alexandra Laird
  • Howard University School of Law - Yvette Lopez
  • Loyola Law School, Los Angeles - Ameen Hussaini
  • Mercer University School of Law - Isiah Chavis
  • Samford University Cumberland School of Law - Elise Driskill
  • South Texas College of Law Houston - Elleana Poulis
  • Stetson University College of Law - Cami DiGiacomo
  • Temple University Beasley School of Law - Chris Moore
  • UCLA School of Law - Regina Campbell
  • University of Georgia School of Law - Nicholas Lewis
  • University of Houston Law Center - Karina Sanchez

The Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition begins on Wednesday, May 31, with an evening orientation and welcome dinner. The following morning, participants will receive their case files, officially marking the beginning of the intense contest. The preliminary rounds will be held on June 2 and 3, leading to the semifinal round scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 4.

The pinnacle of the competition will occur at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, as the final two contenders engage in a fierce showdown during the final round. The final round will be live-streamed and can be viewed at https://www.baylor.edu/law/live. In addition to bragging rights as the 2023 ‘Top Gun,’ the final round winner will take home the grand prize of $10,000, generously provided by MG+M The Law Firm.
