Getting to Know Allison Barber
Why did you choose Baylor Law?
I chose Baylor Law because of its reputation. You can go to any city, and the title of a Baylor Lawyer will follow you. People know about the quarter system and Practice Court program. They know that coming out, you will be trained, prepared, and thorough. The reputation alone sets you up for success, but other things made me choose this school as well. The classes are small, the quarter system is quick but detailed, and the professors will go out of their way to help you succeed both in and out of school.
What is your favorite thing about Baylor Law?
It is safe to say that any law school will bond you to your peers, and Baylor Law is no exception. You will become very close friends with the people in your class, because they are the only ones who get what you are feeling! They are in the exact same boat every step of the way. Undoubtedly, my friendships from Baylor Law will last for many years to come.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
I plan to pursue a career in criminal law as a public defender. One of my summer internships was at the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Dallas, and I loved every minute of it.
What do you do to relax/for fun and/or what all are you involved with at Baylor Law?
Waco is a hidden gem! The community and locals make the town feel homey. But with a massive university at its heart, there are plenty of things to keep you occupied. Apart from the welcoming coffee shops (Pinewood and Nightlight are a must), there is Cameron Park, the Brazos River, the farmer’s market, and a good handful of mom-and-pop restaurants to keep you busy. When I am not in class, I spend my free time burning off steam at Rush Cycle, going on walks with friends and their law pups, and getting involved with my church’s small group!
