Entrepreneurship Clinic Spotlight
In February 2023, the Baylor Law Entrepreneurship Clinic began working with Dr. David Tharp, the founder and CEO of Project Healing Heroes, Inc. Dedicated to combating veteran suicide, Project Healing Heroes delivers essential psychological resources to both combat veterans and first responders.
Dr. Tharp joined the United States Air Force following the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He served as a NATO Medical Advisor, managing the medical assets of 28 countries while stationed in Kandahar. Despite being a trained psychologist, Dr. Tharp only became aware of his own psychological trauma symptoms after his wife brought them to his attention. This realization was the catalyst for the establishment of Project Healing Heroes.
Project Healing Heroes extends psychological support through diverse means, including books, videos, equine therapy, and their latest resource: UP ARMOR. This new initiative offers a comprehensive, individualized, research-focused, peer-led, and faith-based trauma treatment plan. While already established as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity, Project Healing Heroes sought the Clinic’s assistance with Indemnification Agreements and trademark matters. The Clinic’s students worked diligently to craft Indemnification Agreements tailored to the needs of Project Healing Heroes. Dr. Tharp commended the Clinic’s students, stating that “every one of them [was] remarkable” and emphasized the invaluable real-world experience they gained.
To date, Project Healing Heroes, under the leadership of Dr. Tharp, has published three books and a video series dedicated to aiding combat veterans with the invisible wounds of war. The organization offers various programs to address the diverse needs of veterans, including Equines for the Front Lines, PTSD University, and UP ARMOR. Project Healing Heroes is attacking the suicide epidemic with urgency, as current research indicates that 44.5 veterans take their lives every day. For the team at Project Healing Heroes, even one life lost is too many. To learn more about their impactful work, please visit their website at www.projecthealingheroes.org.
