Lauren Jaynes Olivarez
Assistant City Attorney, Waco, TX
Lauren Jaynes Olivarez is grateful to have attended Baylor Law School and practice law in her hometown of Waco, Texas. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.A. in Spanish, she received the Dean’s Academic Excellence Scholarship and attended Baylor Law School on a full tuition scholarship. While a law student, she made the Dean’s List and won the Ralph J. Rohner Award for Best Brief as the Brief Writer for her team at the Sutherland Cup Moot Court Competition. She also published “The Effectiveness of Water Recycling Efforts by the Texas Railroad Commission” in Volume 67, Number 1 of the Baylor Law Review, and served as the Managing Executive Editor as a Baylor Law Review board member. A third-generation Baylor Lawyer, Lauren graduated in 2015.
After graduating, she practiced exclusively in litigation for the first eight years at two Waco law firms—Fulbright Winniford, P.C. and Beard Kultgen Brophy Bostwick & Dickson, PLLC. She was adept and experienced at arguing in the courtroom and to juries, but she especially loved litigation drafting. In particular, she enjoyed writing and filing complex motions in Texas state and federal district courts and appellate briefs in Texas appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of Texas.
In 2022, Lauren joined the City Attorney’s Office for the City of Waco. As an Assistant City Attorney, she represents the Housing and Community Development Department, the Cameron Park Zoo, the Aviation Department (Waco Regional Airport), and the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District. She loves knowing that her work with the City of Waco positively impacts large numbers of Waco residents.
In her personal life, Lauren is an ordained Elder and teaches children’s Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church of Waco, which she attends with her husband, Jon, and their son, Reed. The family is also expecting a daughter (due in January 2024)! The family (including their beloved dog, Poppy) loves to hike together at Cameron Park and spend time with their friends and family.
