Kayla Landeros
Assistant Professor of Law
Kayla is an Assistant Professor in Baylor Law School’s business and transactional program. She joined the faculty in this position in March 2024 and previously served as a Legal Writing Lecturer focusing on transactional drafting.
Kayla joined the faculty with over fifteen years of experience practicing law. She was the City Attorney for the City of Temple, Texas, from November 2014 through August 2019. Before being appointed City Attorney, she served as a Deputy City Attorney in Temple and began that position in May 2012. Before joining the City of Temple, Kayla worked for two established law firms in the Houston area, where she gained valuable litigation and trial experience. While in Houston, she worked with other Baylor Lawyers, including Wayne Fisher and Larry Boyd, who were instrumental in her development as an attorney.
At the City of Temple, her practice focused on real estate transactions, economic development, contract drafting, and commercial litigation. As City Attorney, she provided legal advice and support to the City Council, the City Manager, all City Departments, and the City’s appointed Boards and Commissions. She handled a variety of legal matters and gained invaluable experience in the field of municipal law. A majority of her practice was transactional in nature. She has experience drafting various agreements to which the City was a party, including, but not limited to, economic development agreements, professional services agreements, and construction contracts. The City Attorney’s office also handled all right-of-way and easement acquisitions for the City. Kayla drafted various real estate documents, including deeds, easement agreements, and land purchase agreements.
In addition to teaching, Kayla joined private practice after leaving the City of Temple. Her practice has focused on real estate transactions, economic development, business transactions, contract drafting, and commercial law.
In 2005, Kayla graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and English from Texas A&M University. In the fall of 2005, she started her legal studies at Baylor Law School. While at Baylor, Kayla was a brief writer for two ABA moot court teams, served on the Baylor Law Review, and made the Dean’s List in six consecutive quarters. She graduated cum laude from Baylor Law School in May 2008.
Kayla has been active in various professional and community organizations for several years. She has served as a board member for the Temple Children’s Museum, board member and chair for the United Way of Central Texas, and board member and chair for the Temple Chamber of Commerce.
