John A. (Andy) Powell

Andy Powell serves as primary legal counsel in federal court litigation, including patent, trademark, and copyright lawsuits. Andy also helps clients obtain patent, trademark, and copyright protection for their valuable IP assets.
Andy has been practicing civil trial law in Texas since 2001. He was initially admitted to the Western District of Texas in 2003. Since that time, Andy has served as first chair litigation counsel on multiple patent, trademark, and copyright lawsuits, including cases filed in the Western District of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Eastern District of Texas, and Southrn District of Texas. Andy has recently been lead counsel on multiple patent cases in the Waco Division and the Austin Division, along with serving as lead counsel on trademark and copyright infringement cases in the Dallas Division and Houston Division.
Andy also assists clients with other disputed IP matters, such as trademark opposition proceedings and cancellation proceedings in front of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and trademark disputes concerning infringing websites, including disputes involving the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) that have been decided by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Andy is registered as a patent attorney by the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). He assists clients on a routine basis with preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications at the USPTO. He also handles trademark applications filed with the USPTO and copyright applications filed with the U.S. Copyright Office. Additionally, Andy assists a variety of clients with managing their patent and trademark portfolios, including both national and international IP assets.
