Student Perspective on the Business Law Boot Camp: Caleb Long
Baylor Law's Business Law Boot Camp is a week-long program that provides Baylor Law students with a practical, deep dive into various areas of law a corporate or business transactional lawyer deals with regularly. Taught by a diverse team of accomplished transactional attorneys, the Boot Camp courses are delivered via both classroom lectures and collaborative exercises.
Caleb Long attended Baylor Law's Business Law Boot Camp in 2022. Read his thoughts on the Boot Camp below.
Why did you apply for the Boot Camp? Did it meet your expectations?
I applied for the Business Law Boot Camp because I was confident the program would expose me to various transactional practice areas and a crash course in the life cycle of a business. The Boot Camp’s breadth of topics, depth of discussion, and diversity of faculty exceeded my expectations.
What are your thoughts on what you learned during the Boot Camp?
I greatly enjoyed the various sessions. Some sessions exposed me to a new area of practice; other sessions provided an excellent review of Baylor Law’s transactional elective classes with a practice-focused perspective.
Which classroom session(s) or topic(s) made a particularly strong impression on you, and why?
I particularly enjoyed the following sections: raising capital, financing, and the sale of a business. These three sessions expanded my understanding of the business life cycle and confirmed my desire to pursue the practice area.
What part of the Boot Camp was most challenging for you?
The overall time commitment required to complete the Boot Camp is a rewarding and enriching challenge.
What would you say to a fellow student who is interested in applying for the next Boot Camp?
Any student interested in transactional law should apply to the Business Law Boot Camp. It is a great example of Baylor Law’s strong transactional law program that prepares law students to be practice ready.
What comes next for you? Do you think your attendance at the Boot Camp will impact your future plans?
I will be a transactional summer associate in Dallas this summer. I will return to Baylor Law in August to complete Practice Court. I believe my attendance at the Boot Camp confirmed my future plans; however, I look forward to seeing what benefits arise from the Boot Camp’s curriculum and opportunities to network with practicing attorneys.
