Justice Charles W. Barrow succeeded Dean Angus S. McSwain, Jr. as Dean of Baylor Law School in 1984 after a distinguished career as a member of the Texas judiciary.  

Prior to his appointment as Dean, Barrow served as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Texas.  During his career on the bench, he authored more than 600 opinions and earned the reputation as one of the "workingest judges" in Texas.  He served more than 27 years on the bench in the Texas judiciary.

Barrow received his LL.B. from Baylor in 1943.  He entered World War II as an Naval officer and saw service in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.  He was recalled for duty to serve in the Korean War.  He received seven battle stars during his military career and held the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1976.

He worked for thirteen years as a trial attorney in San Antonio before serving on the bench in the 45th District Court.  In 1962, he was appointed to the 4th Court of Civil Appeals in San Antonio, a post he held until his appointment on the Texas Supreme Court.  Among his many awards he received were the Baylor Lawyer of the Year award in 1972 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1982.
