Mike Morrison practiced law in Kansas and was in the administration of the University of Oklahoma College of Law before beginning to teach at Baylor in 1977. He holds the William Boswell Chair of Law and, in 1997, was designated as an Outstanding Professor by Baylor University.
Professor Morrison writes and speaks extensively on a wide range of topics including redistricting and voting rights where, along with Professor David Guinn, he is a recognized expert and has represented cities, counties and school districts throughout Texas and Arkansas for almost twenty-five years. His writing has received awards including the Texas Bar Foundation’s Outstanding Journal Article Award and a resolution from the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Defense Council expressing appreciation for his contributions to the Profession.
Professor Morrison was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in Psychology (B.A. 1971) with high honors. He also received his law degree from O. U. (J.D. 1974) where he was chosen as the Outstanding Law Student for 1974 by the Oklahoma Bar Association. He served as Note Editor of the Oklahoma Law Review and was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif.
Professor Morrison is admitted to practice in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas as well as the United States Supreme Court and the federal courts of Texas and Oklahoma. He has been recognized by his peers with election as a fellow of both the Texas and the American Bar Foundations.
He served as Mayor of Waco from 1996 to 2000 and continues to be actively involved in civic and community affairs.
