R. Williams, Jr.
Professor
of Law
Peeler
R. Williams, Jr. served as a full-time faculty member at Baylor Law
School from 1972 to 1991. Prior to his appointment as a
full-time professor, he had taught classes in a part-time capacity
for several years while he also practiced law.
Williams
was a native of Waco. He received his A.B. and LL.B. degrees
from Baylor, in 1942 and 1943 respectively. He served in the
United States Navy during World War II, then returned to Waco where
he taught classes at Baylor when the law school reopened in
1946. In 1947, he attended Harvard University and
received an LL.M. He once again returned to Waco and began
practicing law and teaching at Baylor on a part-time basis.
Williams
taught courses in a part-time or full-time capacity in the subjects
of criminal law, income tax, conflicts of law, constitutional law,
labor law, contracts, and federal civil procedure. His law
firm, Sleeper, Williams, Johnston, Helm and Estes, was a general
practice. Williams focused primarily on tax litigation, estate
and trust matters, and corporate law.
Williams continued to balance practicing law and teaching full-time
when he was appointed as a full-time professor in 1972. He was involved in a number of civic activities in Waco throughout his
career.
He retired from the law faculty in 1991. He passed away in
2002.
