Harvey
M. Richey
Professor
of Law; Judge, 19th and 74th District Courts
Harvey
M. Richey served as a faculty member at Baylor Law School for thirty
years, beginning shortly after the school's reestablishment.
Richey served as a judge and as a prominent attorney and statesman
during his career.
Richey
was a native of Waco. He attended Washington College in
Tennessee, then received his Bachelor of Science degree from
Baylor. He later received his LL.B. from the University of
Texas, and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1907. After he
graduated from Texas, he served as an assistant county attorney for
McLennan County and as justice of the peace for two terms.
Richey
served as the judge of the 19th District Court in 1916. He
returned to the bench in 1917 as judge for the 74th District Court,
a post he held until 1925.
He
was a noted expert on estates, wills, and land titles. He
began teaching law at Baylor in 1926 and continued until
1956. He was a member of the Federal Bar Admissions
Committee for more than thirty years. In addition to
professional activities, Richey was active in a number of civic
activities, including membership on the Waco School Board and the
board of directors for the McLennan County Red Cross.
Richey
died in 1967.
