Professor of Law; Judge, 19th and 74th District Courts

Harvey M. Richey served as a faculty member at Baylor Law School for thirty years, beginning shortly after the school's reestablishment.  Richey served as a judge and as a prominent attorney and statesman during his career.

Richey was a native of Waco.  He attended Washington College in Tennessee, then received his Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor.  He later received his LL.B. from the University of Texas, and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1907.  After he graduated from Texas, he served as an assistant county attorney for McLennan County and as justice of the peace for two terms.

Richey served as the judge of the 19th District Court in 1916.  He returned to the bench in 1917 as judge for the 74th District Court, a post he held until 1925.

He was a noted expert on estates, wills, and land titles.  He began teaching law at Baylor in 1926 and continued until 1956.   He was a member of the Federal Bar Admissions Committee for more than thirty years.   In addition to professional activities, Richey was active in a number of civic activities, including membership on the Waco School Board and the board of directors for the McLennan County Red Cross.

Richey died in 1967.
