More About Baylor Law School
The New Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center
A spectacular new home for Baylor Law School. The Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center is a spectacular 125,000 square foot, three-story building that is designed to meet the needs of a contemporary legal education. The Law Center is not only designed to meet current technologies but also embodies the flexibility needed to accommodate breakthrough technologies in the decades to come. The new Law Center was developed just for you––America’s top law students who are pursuing the best practical legal education. The building houses every facility a modern law school requires: spacious, comfortable classrooms, a student lounge and dining area, practice courtrooms, an extensive law library, and computer and research labs that provide access to the Internet, wireless connectivity throughout the building, Lexis and Westlaw databases and e-mail accounts. Positioned on the banks of the Brazos River, no law school facility in the nation is more aesthetically pleasing or better equipped to educate lawyers for the 21st century.
Modern Classrooms. Spacious, comfortable classrooms featuring wrap-around curved tiers keep teachers close to their students, improve sight lines and maximize interaction between teachers and their students. Desk areas comfortably accommodate laptop computers. Each seat has its own dataport and electrical source.
Practice Courtrooms are located on the second floor of the Carol Ann and Harold Nix Academic and Advocacy Center. The advocacy suite includes an impressive Practice Court classroom, four courtrooms, additional offices for Mock Trial and Moot Court teams, as well as the Barrister's Suite. Each courtroom is wired to employ current communications technologies.
A Magnificent New Library. Situated along the entire
north wing of the new Law Center is the soaring, three-story Sheridan and John
Eddie Williams Legal Research and Technology Center. It provides the bright,
airy, spacious environment that will make it a welcome and inviting destination
for you to study and research. The facility's resources include several large
and small reading rooms, computer and research areas, an audio/visual area, and
study carrels, each equipped with electronic outlets for computer connections as
well as wireless connectivity. The Library’s data and information resources are
electronically-accessible via online services so you can access the information
you need 24 hours a day from your home.
Faculty Offices Designed for Mentoring. Baylor Law School faculty are singularly
exceptional for their personal and professional commitment to their students. To
reinforce and foster this teacher and student interaction, each new faculty
office provides a comfortable atmosphere for meetings, exam reviews, discussion
and consultation with you.
Bright and Spacious Student Areas. The student lounge
provides a bright and comfortable area for socializing and studying while
enjoying an impressive river view. Also, you can relax or study in several
beautifully landscaped outside areas.
