Requirements for Admission

You must have a bachelors’ degree from a regionally accredited college or university by the time you matriculate at the law school.

You must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Information about the LSAT and registration materials are available at www.lsac.org.

Subscribe to the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) and make arrangements to have each undergraduate transcript mailed to the LSDAS. LSDAS is a division of LSAC that collects and analyzes academic data and transcripts.

In addition, you must comply with all LSDAS notifications and payment requirements. The LSDAS furnishes information to law schools from your college transcripts and LSAT scores.

Baylor Law School requires the submission of one letter of recommendation. We prefer these letters be from someone who can attest to your ability to enter a competitive professional program. To avoid delays in the consideration of your application, Baylor Law School requires that your letter be submitted through the LSAC letter of recommendation service that serves all member schools. This service is included in your LSDAS registration subscription. Your letter will be copied and sent to us along with your LSDAS report. To use this service, follow the directions for submitting letters outlined at www.lsac.org.

Additional letters of recommendation are not necessary; however, we recognize some applicants prefer to have additional letters sent directly to the Law School. We strongly recommend that additional letters of recommendation be sent within two weeks of submitting an application packet to the Law School. Since application files may be reviewed shortly after receipt of LSDAS reports, we cannot guarantee that additional letters of recommendation will be considered by the Admissions Committee if the letters are received after an application file has been sent to the Admissions Committee for review. Furthermore, we cannot accommodate special requests to hold application files awaiting an additional letter or letters of recommendation.

Applicants will not be able to monitor receipt of additional letters of recommendation by the Law School through the “Checking the Status” feature on our web site. Therefore, applicants who are interested in finding out if an additional letter of recommendation has been received by the Law School by the Law School are encouraged to email Ms. Becky Beck-Chollett, Assistant Dean of Admissions at Becky_Beck@baylor.edu. Ms. Beck-Chollett will respond to your e-mail within 4 business days after receipt.

All applicants must submit a Personal Statement, which should be approximately two pages in length. The personal statement must be your own work product. It should be prepared without the assistance of other persons or professional writing services. This is your opportunity to persuade the Admissions Committee that you should be admitted to Baylor Law School. The Committee will be trying to get a sense of you as a person and also will be evaluating your writing ability. What you choose to write about is up to you. Any number of factors could be helpful to the Admissions Committee, including your motivation to study law, evidence of academic achievement, leadership and responsibility, community involvement, educational, social, and economic background, and any special skills that you posses, such as bilingual language skills or advocacy skills. We are particularly interested in any aspect of your background that would allow you to distinctively enrich the law school environment.

Failure to meet these requirements will result in a delay in processing your application or a denial of admission.
