How to Use the BearCat System
Open internet explorer and go to
http://bearcat.baylor.edu
At this menu you can choose to search by Author (default), Title, or Keyword.
Type in the title (or author or keyword) and press enter.
This produces a list of titles that match your search criteria.
When you receive too many results, you can narrow down the available choices by
specifying different aspects. The most useful limiting choice for law students
is to specify the location as "law".
Here is an example of finding legal titles by the author "Pierce".
First, search by Author name "Pierce".
This returns 263 authors with the name Pierce.
To make that more relevant for your purposes, limit the search to location.
First, click the "Limit This Search" button.
You will reach a screen where you can click the drop down arrow for the "Where"
and select "Law", then click the "Limit/sort items" button.
This will produce results which are much more specific to law, and probably contain the title of the book you trying to find, (in this case I was hoping to find "Administrative Law").
Using this a few times will give you a sense of familiarity that
will allow you to navigate the system quickly.
If you have any questions regarding using bearcat or to report
any errors with the system, please let me know.
Thanks!
