Important Student Deadlines

Timely Deadlines to File Declaration of Intention to Study Law in Texas:

Spring Entrants - June 1
Summer Entrants - September 15
Fall Entrants - October 1

Forms for the Declaration should be downloaded from the Texas Board of Law Examiners web site.

Texas Bar Examination Filing Deadlines

February Exam:
File no earlier than June 30th
Timely filing is August 30th
Absolute Deadline is October 30th

July Exam:
File no earlier than November 30th
Timely filing is January 30th
Absolute Deadline is March 30th

MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination)

The MPRE is required for admission to the bars of the many jurisdictions, including Texas. The examination is generally administered three times a year at established test centers across the country in March, August, and November.

Guide to the Basics of Law Practice

In 1996, the Supreme Court of Texas mandated that all lawyers licensed (active or inactive) in the state of Texas take a four-hour professionalism course entitled "A Guide to the Basics of Law Practice" not later than twelve (12) months of being licensed. The course is offered numerous times throughout the year, which enables each newly licensed lawyer the opportunity to take the course within the time constraints set forth by the Court.
