Baylor Law School operates on the quarter system, running four full sessions in each academic year. First-year law students must complete courses in the first-year curriculum in a sequence prescribed by the Associate Dean of the Law School. Students in their fourth term or later may take elective courses in addition to several required courses.

 

When considering course schedules, students should keep in mind the following objectives:

(1) Students must take all required courses at the proper time.

(2) To meet American Bar Association accreditation standards, may not graduate in less than 24 months However, students cannot take longer than 84 months from the date of matriculation to graduate. Students are not permitted to take more than 17 hours in any quarter. Students may take less than ten hours in a quarter only with the permission of the Associate Dean of the Law School.

(3) Students must take 126 hours by the time they plan to graduate.

(4) Students may arrange to take electives of their choice, in addition to required upper-level courses. These courses include Business Organizations I, Trusts & Estates I, Constitutional Law, Federal Income Taxation, Consumer Protection, Practice Court, Evidence, and Professional Responsibility.
